  1. If this is a Taiwanese drama then why are they speaking Cantonese? It makes me, as a native Taiwanese not understand what they’re saying. Should at least sub the Cantonese parts in English.

  2. omg the main female lead really looks like Kimi the another taiwanese actress. anyone know if they’re related in any way??

  3. Have not seen the female main lead before .. watching this for Bryant Chang! The 2nd female lead may have been better as main lead; she did quite a good job in Be With You.

  4. My laptop doesn’t type Chinese, so bear with me as I respond in English.

The English (yingguoren) do not laugh at the Americans (meiguoren) for speaking English (yingwen). Read some books and learn something instead of speaking out of your pie hole.

  5. OMG, why do they have to pretend to speak Cantonese especially the young restaurant guys. Their Cantonese is so poor I could hardly understand them. I’d they dubbed them or have them speak in Mandarin. I feel disrespected as a native Cantonese speaker.

    • 貴下之意是不是像北京人笑台灣人說國語, 香港人笑大陸廣東人說廣東話, 還是像英國人笑美國人說英語?

      • sorry but when did hk laugh at 廣東人說廣東話. They just laugh at mainland not for how they speak but how they act poop on floor and everywhere or even let their child reach age of 10 + a FEMALE naked in public. And they aren’t laughing they are just disgust by it.

        • And one more thing the cantonese we speak (hong kong) is same as 廣東人說廣東話 so I don’t see any of this problem that u are saying…

    • who cares. it’s acting..disrespected…uh-.- At first I didn’t get use to their pretense on speaking cantonese but gradually idc. So you should focus on the plot instead of this minor things. but hell i don’t want to watch this nor the korean drama inheritor..

      • Yes, it’s acting and acting includes how a person speaks. If watching a movie or TV show is only about the plot then let’s all just read books then. Acting is an art and part of the art is making the character believable. Not be able to speak like a native when playing one is poor acting or at least poor casting.

    • I don’t find that respectful but it is very awkward for sure…they can just make the characters more convincing, like saying they were brought up in TW with Cantonese parents, instead of acting as a 100% local HKers who cannot speak Canto…

      • It’s, of course, disrespectful because they’re making a statement that says Cantonese does not need to be spoken even within a range of authenticity. Or a Cantonese speaking character does not need to be authentic. Would they get a person who cannot sound good in Mandarin to act as someone from Taiwan or the Mainland unless the character in the story is not a native speaker? That would never happen because the audience would feel disrespected. Acting is not just emoting. It includes speech. Why else would Meryl Streep always be praised for her ability to do different accents? For the same reason, I always thought it’s stupid to have well known American actors act in English roles but cannot even muster a passible English accent and yet everyone around them are speaking in perfect English accent.

        • having poor acting or language skills doesn’t make one disrespectful. if i played tennis but wasn’t as good as rafael nadal, would that mean i was being disrespectful to the sport?
i agree that the cantonese is really bad, i’ve not heard such bad cantonese on tv before. but that doesn’t make it disrespectful. it just means the actor doesn’t fit the role, that they chose the wrong person to play the character, or simply that the story doesn’t quite make sense.
but i fail to see how it is disrespectful in any sense. if i wasn’t a native language speaker, and i’m making an effort to speak a second, third or fourth language, why should the native speakers take offence at my efforts?
to make things worse, you aren’t even going on about his language capabilities but you’re confusing linguistic ability with ACCENTS. wow. so an inability to fake an accent is now disrespectful?
          perhaps you need a dictionary.

          • I’m not saying the actors are disrespectful. They are probably doing their best. It is the director, the casting director, and producers that are disrespectful. They cast actors who obviously cannot do the job probably for the roles. And it’s because it’s Cantonese they think it’s good enough. That’s where the disrespect come in. These characters are suppose to be native Cantonese speakers so how could they have accents? It’s not logical. Writing an illogical plot or casting inappropriate actors is like saying that the audience can easily be fooled and not worth having the best. Is this the message for audiences in Taiwan–“Whatever let’s just use these guys because they look good. Besides, Taiwanese can’t tell the difference between authentic Cantonese from one with a Mandarin accent?” So they’re being disrespectful to Cantonese speakers and their general audience both. It’s the same as knowingly giving a customer a 2nd rate product. Now, would you go see a Shakespearian play where all the actors speak proper English except for the lead who speak American English? I would not. Now if all the actors speak American English, Chinese, or Japanese then it’s ok.
