The ‘truth’ is that Zi Xuan’s dad cheated on his mom with his ex – first love or otherwise, it is still no excuse – if you are still married and seeing someone else, that’s cheating. The ‘truth’ doesn’t excuse his day’s behavior in treating both Zi Xuan and his sick mother so badly. Zi Xuan’s stepmother probably understand that it was her fault that Zi Xuan’s mother was so neglected by his father – not that Zi Xuan’s parents’ marriage would have survived without her intrusion but she probably realizes that she was a catalyst in ending it.
Zi Xuan’s dad is self-absorbed and prideful. He was wrong in betraying his Sifu (Ya Zhen’s granddad) and now he is trying to shift focus by saying he didn’t know that his Sifu was ill and that grandma had come to beg him to see his Sifu at his deathbed. I would imagine that their culinary world was small enough for him to have had news of his Sifu. As with his wife later on, he probably just ignored the signs and could not be bothered enough to want to be in the know. He probably did not send people to turn Ya Zhen’s grandma away but neither did he feel enough remorse to want to redeem himself properly all these years.
I don’t really care if Zi Xuan disowned his father. His dad is not worth his time anyway.
why cant zi xuan know the truth? besides why does zi xuan have to bear the guilt that his father comitted??
