Is it me or the product placement is way too strong in this drama?
can someone do the eng subs? thanks
As usual, Melvin Sia doesn’t disappoint me with his subtle and understated acting here although the same can’t be said for Huang Pei Jia who’s acting comes across as forced and OTT. Kinda wasted coz she’s an accomplished and award-winning actress herself. The one actress that stands out for me is the one playing the older sister – Chu Chih Ying. Still waiting for some kind of sparks to fly between the boss and the office rookie to offset the realistic feel of this drama and provide some romance to it. Strange as it sounds, for now, I’m actually shipping the boss and the mother. Haha!
Well said. Very surprised that Huang Pei Jia is overacting so much in this drama. So much that it annoys me just to see her. Her hairdo is also terrible for her face. Her boss is just way too sweet and protective of her (and this is NOT a compliment). Other than that the drama is not bad.
Huang Pei Jia looks more compatible with Harry Chang in this drama. She just doesn’t gel with Melvin here. The height difference is very distracting.
yeah, surprisingly chuh Chi ying seems more compatible with Melvin. Harry and Pei Jia have more chemistry and I think Harry is really doing well in this role- he’s managed to give his shallow character some complexity in the way he’s been “giving” to Sisi. All things considered, they cast this show really well. I like the consistency with the theme in all the characters, including the side ones (like sisi’s dad and gf meimei). I think the height difference is supposed to be cute? Like how he just ports her off when he carries her as she’s ranting… Haha. But age wise, it’s a little off I must say. I find their age difference distracting. This drama is so much better than a lot of the others out there with plot holes aplenty.
Well, this discussion is getting interesting. I guess size matters coz Pei Jia’s small frame makes her look 10 years younger than her real age. It’s a pity this drama is so under-rated right now as it’s rare to find a quality women-oriented drama written by a female scriptwriter for her own mother. In the official launching of the drama, she was very apologetic for reducing the male characters to supporting roles but, like you said, the male cast had successfully added depth and complexity to their roles that could have turned into two-dimensional characters in the hands of inept actors – from the loser of a father, to the abusive spineless husband, to the aloof boss with a baggage of his own, to the scheming co-boss – I love them all. ):
Oh! I didn’t know that it was written by a female for her own mum, that makes it even more meaningful. Thanks for that. Yes, I love the male characters too, flaws and all. I guess this drama is so underrated because it’s not an idol drama in genre. It’s not a typical show where you watch and become manipulated willingly into indulging in a fantasy. It’s relatable and makes you reflect, too, on the unfulfilled things in your own life and regrets. Might be too intense for some, but cathartic for me. I love how there’s a narration at the end that echoes a general theme in each episode and is sometimes incorporated into another character’s lines. 🙂
Just found out that the actress who plays the older sister is a Golden Horse Award winning actress, who had multiple nominations prior that. Same with the actress who plays the mother. Both actresses truly outshines the other actors and actresses in this drama!
The mother’s acting is good although she can get a bit carried away at times. I think Chu Chih Ying would make an excellent drama couple with Melvin Sia – right looks, right height, right age and right talent.
Loving this show to pieces. Took a while for me to appreciate it because it is slice-of-life and a bit slower paced. Love the well-placed flashbacks and the running themes of ‘regret’, and broken relationships either being restored or shattering apart. The star of the show is undoubtedly the lady who is holding her own memorial. The scenes with her older daughter tear me apart. Well-acted, well-directed. The only thing I don’t like is the love line between Sisi and her boss. A little too predictable. Wonderful soundtrack, too.
Very well said!
That MIL of the elder sister .. vomit blood .. no wonder if she wants to leave the house .. a human has feelings.
